Ring Fighter came out in 1992 from Arcade Innovations, a company that put out a few solid brawlers and fighters around that time. It was one of those arcade cabinets you’d find wedged in the corner of a pizza place, right when fighting games were starting to get really popular. The cabinet itself had a bright marquee and two sets of controls, so you could challenge a friend or just take on the computer.

You control a fighter who moves around a small circular ring, trying to knock the opponent out of it or just wear down their health. The main goal is to win each match and advance through a tournament of increasingly tough opponents. Key mechanics include timing your blocks to counterattack, grabbing opponents to perform slams or throws, and building up a special meter for a powerful super move. Matches are fast and the difficulty ramps up quickly; you have to read your opponent’s patterns and react. It feels tense and physical, like every move could turn the match around.
