Game Overview

Virtua Fighter 2 came to the Sega Genesis in 1996, a port by Sega of their own arcade hit. It arrived late in the system's life, a time when developers were really pushing the hardware to its limits. You could feel that ambition just looking at it; the characters were all polygonal, which was still a novelty on a 16-bit console.

You pick a fighter like Akira or Sarah and step into a 3D ring. The goal is simple: reduce your opponent's health bar to zero or knock them out of the ring. The fighting relies on precise button combinations for punches, kicks, and throws, with a big emphasis on timing and reading your opponent. It's a methodical game, faster than the first but still demanding patience. Landing a well-timed counter throw after blocking a reckless attack feels incredibly solid and satisfying.
