Game Overview

Alright, so Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves on NES is exactly what it sounds like—a pixelated, slightly janky love letter to the Kevin Costner movie. You’re Robin, you’ve got a sword, and the Sheriff’s guards are everywhere. The controls take a second to get used to (why does jumping feel so floaty?), but once you’re swinging from vines in Sherwood Forest or sneaking past archers in Nottingham, it clicks.

It’s not the hardest game, but some of the platforming will absolutely trip you up—those castle towers are brutal if you miss a jump. And yeah, the graphics are basic, but there’s something weirdly satisfying about bonking enemies with your hilt and watching them flop over. Also, the music? Surprisingly decent for an NES licensed game. Not Bryan Adams-level, but close.

If you’re into retro games that don’t take themselves too seriously, this one’s a fun way to kill an afternoon. Just don’t expect a masterpiece—expect to laugh a little while stealing gold for the poor.
