Game Overview

Robo Demons is one of those NES games that somehow slipped under the radar but absolutely shouldn’t have. You hop into this clunky-but-cool mech suit and immediately get thrown into a warzone of malfunctioning robots—some crawl at you like spiders, others swoop in from above, and all of them want you dead. The first level alone has this grimy factory vibe with flickering lights and steam vents that actually mess with your vision. Nice touch.

It plays like if someone took Contra and Mega Man, cranked the difficulty to "NES-hard," and then welded on a bunch of weird mechanical limbs. Your starting gun feels useless by stage two, so you’re scrambling for upgrades—the spread shot’s my favorite, though the homing missiles save your skin against bosses. And speaking of bosses, the first one’s this towering drill-armed monstrosity that took me way too many tries to beat. The pixel art’s shockingly good for 8-bit, all rusted metal and eerie glow effects. Just don’t expect the game to go easy on you. That "Game Over" screen’s gonna become real familiar.
