Game Overview

Robopon - Sun Version is basically Pokémon but with robots—and honestly, that’s not a bad thing. You play as Cody, a kid who inherits his grandpa’s Robopon business, starting with just one little bot named Sunny. The goal? Battle your way up the ranks by taking down the "Legend 7," the island’s top collectors. Beat one, and you steal their spot. Simple, but satisfying.

What makes it fun is the tinkering. Your Robopon aren’t just leveled up—they’re upgraded with software and parts, which changes their attacks. Mix software right, and you can unlock some wild special moves. Battles are turn-based, and yeah, it feels familiar if you’ve played Pokémon, but there’s a twist: sometimes defeated bots drop parts you can snag mid-fight. Also, your birthday actually matters—the game uses it to pick your starter, which is a neat touch.

You’ll need to trade with Star Version (via infrared, because it’s the Game Boy Color era) to catch ‘em all, since there are 153 Robopon total. It’s a quirky, slightly janky take on the monster-collecting formula, but if you like tweaking robots more than training animals, it’s worth a shot.
