Route X came out in 1992 from Arcade Dynamics, one of those late-era arcade racers that felt like a last push before consoles took over. It didn't have the flash of some other titles, but it had a clean, focused look that stood out in a crowded arcade.
You control a low-slung futuristic car, swiping left and right to dodge barriers that rush toward you at increasing speed. The main goal is survival; each screen represents a segment of the track, and the barriers tighten their patterns the further you go. The mechanics are simple but punishing: one mistimed move ends your run, and the pacing accelerates sharply after the first thirty seconds. It feels like a pure test of reflexes, tense and immediate from start to finish.
