Play Rudra no Hihou (Japan) [En by Aeon Genesis v2.0] (~Treasure of the Rudras) Online
You type your own magic spells—some work, some backfire—while bouncing between three characters’ stories in this overlooked SNES RPG. Messing with weird spell combos never gets old.

Game Overview
Rudra no Hihou (or Treasure of the Rudras) is one of those late-era SNES RPGs that flew under the radar—probably because it never left Japan officially. It feels like a classic Square game at first glance, with that familiar turn-based combat and overworld exploration, but the magic system is where things get wild.
Instead of picking spells from a menu, you literally type them out. Want fire? Type "FIRE." Want something stronger? Try "INFERNO." The game even lets you experiment—some combos work, others fizzle hilariously. I spent way too much time testing nonsense words just to see what’d happen. (Pro tip: "SAMURAI" does something completely different from "SWORD." Go figure.)
The story splits between three characters, each with their own vibe—my favorite was the cocky mercenary, but the scholar’s arc gets surprisingly deep. The translation patch (shoutout to Aeon Genesis) holds up decently, though you’ll still hit some charmingly awkward 90s RPG dialogue. If you’ve burned through the usual SNES RPGs and want something with a weird, creative twist, this is it.
