Running Battle came out for the Sega Master System in 1989, published by Sega themselves. It was one of those straightforward action games that filled out the library back then, not aiming to reinvent the wheel but just to deliver some solid, if simple, fun. You didn't see a ton of games like it on the system, but it fit right in with the era's focus on direct, uncomplicated challenges.

You control a lone police officer who must fight through waves of enemies advancing from both sides of the screen. Your main goal is to clear each stage by defeating every attacker using punches, jump kicks, and occasional special weapons that drop from defeated foes. The screen doesn't scroll; you're locked into one area until all enemies are gone, which forces you to constantly manage threats from left and right. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty ramps up quickly as more aggressive enemy types appear. It feels tense and immediate, like trying to hold your ground in a storm of fists and feet.
