Dodging pixel jellyfish while a shark stalks you, scrambling for oxygen as that relentless synth track amps up the pressure—this is MS-DOS diving at its most tense.

ScubaVenture is one of those MS-DOS games that somehow makes staring at a pixelated ocean feel legitimately thrilling. You start off with just a wetsuit, a tank of oxygen that drains way too fast, and this weirdly hypnotic synth track that makes every dive feel like an 80s action montage.
At first it seems simple—swim around, grab treasure, don’t get eaten—but then you realize the jellyfish are basically underwater landmines, and that one shark has been circling the same wreck for five minutes like it’s waiting for you to slip up. The controls are dead simple (arrow keys and a single button for your harpoon), but the tension builds fast when your air starts running low and you still haven’t found the next oxygen cache.
It’s got that perfect retro balance: easy to pick up, hard to put down, and just unpredictable enough to keep you diving back in. Also, the treasure chests sometimes explode. No warning, just boom—guess you shouldn’t have trusted that barnacle-covered lock.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
