Play SD Gundam - Power Formation Puzzle Online
Connect falling blocks to build mobile suits and fend off enemies in this puzzle game featuring SD Gundam's chibi-style characters.
SD Gundam: Power Formation Puzzle came out for the Super Nintendo in 1996, developed and published by Bandai. It was part of that late era on the system where developers were still finding interesting ways to use the hardware, and this one definitely stood out from the usual action or RPG fare. It took the SD Gundam aesthetic, with its super-deformed, chibi-style mobile suits, and applied it to a puzzle game format, which was a pretty novel idea at the time.
You control a cursor on a grid, manipulating falling blocks that depict parts of different Gundams and enemy units like Zakus. The main objective is to clear the screen by connecting these parts to form complete mobile suits, which then automatically attack the enemy forces on the opposite side of the screen. Two key mechanics define the play: you can rotate each piece before placing it, and you need to strategically link specific parts (like heads, bodies, and weapons) to create functional units. The pacing starts deceptively calm but ramps up quickly as enemy attacks become more frequent, putting pressure on your ability to think and place pieces under a time limit. It feels like a race to build your army before the opponent overwhelms you, blending tactical unit creation with the immediate stress of a falling block puzzle.
