Game Overview

SD The Great Battle: Aratanaru Chousen came out for the Super Nintendo in 1992, developed by Banpresto. It was part of a crossover series mashing up characters from Kamen Rider, Ultraman, and Gundam, all in a super deformed style that was pretty common on the SNES at the time.

You pick one of the three heroes, each with their own basic attacks and special moves. The goal is to fight through side scrolling stages, clearing out waves of enemies and beating a boss at the end of each one. You can switch between characters on the fly, which helps since some are better at close combat and others at range. The levels are short but packed with enemies, and the difficulty can spike pretty hard if you aren't careful with your health. It feels like a messy, fast brawler that doesn’t take itself too seriously.
