SD The Great Battle: Aratanaru Chousen came out for the Super Nintendo in 1992, developed by Banpresto. It was part of a wave of crossover games that mashed up popular anime and tokusatsu characters, a trend that felt very much of its time on the SNES. You get to play as miniature, super-deformed versions of heroes from Gundam, Ultraman, and Kamen Rider, which was a fun, weird concept back then.
You control one of these chibi heroes, moving screen by screen through side-scrolling stages filled with enemies. Your main goal is to fight through each level, using a character-specific weapon like a beam saber or a Rider Kick, and defeat the boss waiting at the end. The game lets you switch between your three characters on the fly, which is useful because each one has different attacks and a screen-clearing super move that drains health. It is a pretty chaotic and difficult game, with lots of enemies and projectiles to avoid. Playing it feels like managing a small, destructive team through pure, frantic action.
