Second Samurai came out on the Sega Genesis in 1994, developed by Psygnosis. It was one of those action platformers that felt right at home on the system, with a mix of swordplay and exploration that kept you moving forward. The game had a distinct look, a bit darker and more detailed than a lot of its contemporaries, which made it stand out without trying too hard.
You control a resurrected warrior tasked with saving your master from the Demon King. The action is broken into screen by screen areas where you fight off enemies with your sword, a bow, and eventually magic spells you collect. You're always searching for keys to open doors and vases that hide power ups or health. The pacing is fast, and the difficulty can spike in some sections, demanding quick reflexes and careful exploration. It feels like a constant push through hostile territory, with just enough reward from finding new weapons to keep you going.
