I picked up The Settlers on Nintendo DS back in 2007, a Ubisoft release that fit right in with the handheld's library of strategy and simulation titles. The main goal is to expand your territory, build a stable economy, and defend against occasional bandit raids. Key mechanics include managing intricate production chains, like turning wheat into flour and then bread, and using the touch screen to place buildings and issue commands directly. The pacing is deliberate, almost methodical; a misstep in your supply line can halt construction or leave your army unprepared. It feels satisfying to see your small cluster of huts slowly transform into a bustling, self-sufficient town.
