Konami released Sexy Parodius for the Sega Saturn in 1996, a time when the console was home to a number of visually rich, arcade-perfect ports. It's a direct sequel in the Parodius series, itself a parody of the company's own Gradius games, and it arrived with all the absurdity and polish you'd expect from that lineage.

You pilot one of several oddball ships, like a transforming Vic Viper or a penguin in a floating bathtub, navigating horizontally scrolling stages filled with offbeat enemies. Your main objective is to survive the chaotic onslaught, clearing each screen of foes while collecting bells to power up your ship's weapons and options. Signature mechanics include the bell system, which cycles through various power-ups when shot, and the ability to capture certain enemies to use as temporary helper units or screen-clearing bombs. The pacing is frantic, the difficulty is substantial but fair, and the sheer unpredictability of the hazards keeps you on your toes. It feels like playing through a cartoon where anything can happen, and your only job is to shoot back.
