Play Shadow of the Ninja Online
Take control of ninjas Hayate or Kaede, battle through a futuristic city, defeat enemies, and use a grappling hook to swing and climb in Shadow of the Ninja on NES.
I first played Shadow of the Ninja on the NES back in 1990. It was developed by Natsume, a company that put out a number of solid action games for the system. This one fit right in with the era's focus on challenging side-scrollers, offering a straightforward but intense experience without a lot of the fluff you see in some modern titles.
You control one of two ninjas, Hayate or Kaede, working your way through a futuristic city taken over by an evil emperor. Your main goal is to fight through five stages, clearing each screen of enemies before moving to the next. The combat relies on a short-range sword and limited throwing stars, but the real standout is the grappling hook you use to swing across gaps and climb to higher platforms. The pacing is fast, and the difficulty is relentless, with enemy placements and boss patterns that demand quick reflexes. It feels sharp and responsive, a game where every jump and attack has weight and consequence.
