Play Shard of Spring Online
Explore a frozen world, manage a party of fighters and mages, battle foes in turn-based combat, and search for the Shard of Spring to end the eternal winter.
Shard of Spring came out in 1986 from Strategic Simulations, Inc., one of those early MS-DOS RPGs that felt like a direct transplant from the Apple II or Commodore 64. It was a time when games didn't hold your hand; you got a manual, a world map, and a lot of guesswork. The setup was simple: a world plunged into eternal winter, and you had to fix it.
You control a party of up to four characters, choosing from classes like fighters, mages, and clerics, then guide them through a top-down world divided into distinct screens. Combat is turn-based and happens right on the exploration map, which means you can be ambushed by wolves or bandits at any moment. Your main goal is to find the titular Shard of Spring, but getting there involves delving into dungeons, managing scarce gold for better gear, and carefully rationing spell points. The game is notoriously difficult, with enemies that can overwhelm an unprepared party quickly, and progress often hinges on trial and error. It feels tense and unpredictable, like every new screen could be your last.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
