Play Shin Majan Online
You match tiles against quirky characters in a story-driven mahjong RPG—SNES chunky visuals, satisfying tile clacks, and opponents who sweat when you pull off slick combos.

Shin Majan came out in 1995 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, developed by KSS. It was one of those late-era SNES releases that tried something different, blending traditional mahjong with a full-fledged RPG structure. It didn't get a lot of attention outside Japan, but for players who found it, it offered a unique kind of strategy experience wrapped in the console's distinctive 16-bit style.
You control a young hero who must challenge a series of eccentric opponents by winning rounds of mahjong. The main goal is to progress through the story by defeating these characters, which unlocks new areas and advances the plot. Gameplay revolves around screen-by-screen exploration of towns and overworld maps, talking to NPCs to find matches, and then engaging in tile-based battles where forming specific hands deals damage to your rival. The pacing is deliberate, with a difficulty that expects you to learn mahjong tactics rather than rely on luck. It feels surprisingly tense to carefully arrange your tiles while your on-screen opponent reacts to every move you make.
