Game Overview

Shin SD Gundam Gaiden: Knight Gundam Monogatari came out for the Game Boy in 1991, published by Bandai. It was part of that wave of late 80s and early 90s games that took big franchises and reimagined them in pocket sized adventures, often with a surprising amount of detail packed into those little grey cartridges. This one turns the Gundam universe into a medieval fantasy, swapping mobile suits for armored knights, but keeping all the familiar faces in super deformed, chibi style.

You control a knight, making your way through side scrolling stages, fighting enemies with your sword and occasionally using a bow. The goal is to advance screen by screen, clearing out foes, finding keys to open doors, and eventually facing a boss. You gain experience from battles, leveling up your health and attack power, which helps in the later, tougher areas. It’s not an easy game; enemies hit hard, and progress can feel slow when you’re grinding for levels. Playing it feels like a condensed, charming take on an action RPG, where every small victory matters.
