Shining Soul came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2002, published by SEGA and Atlus in different regions. It was part of that wave of portable action RPGs that gave players a full adventure to carry in their pockets, blending straightforward combat with light character progression.

You control a hero from one of several classes, like a warrior or archer, and hack your way through monster-filled dungeons one screen at a time. Your goal is to defeat the forces of darkness by clearing room after room of enemies, collecting better gear and leveling up along the way. The combat is direct and responsive, whether you're swinging a sword or firing arrows, and the pacing stays brisk even when backtracking. It feels satisfying to see your character grow stronger with each cleared corridor and every new piece of equipment found.
