Game Overview

Sid Meier’s Railroad Tycoon Deluxe came out in 1993 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games series, published by MicroProse Software. It was one of those deep, thoughtful strategy games that felt right at home on computers in the early 90s, offering a mix of economic simulation and logistics planning without flashy graphics or hand-holding.

You control a budding railroad magnate, building tracks, buying locomotives, and managing cargo like coal, mail, and passengers between growing cities. The main goal is to outperform rival companies and dominate the map economically. Key mechanics include laying efficient rail routes, dealing with fluctuating commodity prices, and issuing stocks and bonds to fund expansion. The pacing is deliberate, sometimes tense, especially when loans come due or competitors undercut your rates. It feels like solving a massive, living puzzle where every decision ripples across decades of industrial history.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
