Play Silent Service Online
Captain a U.S. submarine, patrol the Pacific, plot courses, aim your periscope, fire torpedoes, manage your crew, and survive tense naval battles in Silent Service.

Silent Service came out on the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1989, published by MicroProse. It was part of that wave of deeper, more complex games that started to appear on the NES, appealing to players who wanted something more thoughtful than the usual platformers.
You are the captain of a U.S. Gato-class submarine in the Pacific theater. Your job is to patrol assigned sectors, hunt enemy shipping, and survive. You spend a lot of time on the map screen plotting intercept courses, then switch to the periscope view to manually aim and fire torpedoes at freighters and destroyers. Managing your crew's fatigue and repairing battle damage, like hull breaches or a disabled periscope, is constant work between engagements. The pacing is slow and deliberate, with long stretches of quiet ocean punctuated by sudden, tense combat. It feels like a genuine test of patience and tactical thinking.
