Control an ant colony as queen, managing workers, soldiers, and breeders. Battle red ants, avoid predators, and expand territory in a dynamic yard environment. 1991 Amiga simulation game.
Game Overview
SimAnt arrived on the Amiga in 1991, a simulation from Maxis that explored the micro world of an ant colony. It was a different kind of strategy game for its time, focusing on the complex life beneath our feet rather than grand space operas or fantasy conquests. You take command of a black ant colony, starting from a single queen and a handful of workers in a suburban backyard.
You control individual ants directly, issuing commands to dig tunnels, gather food, and care for the larvae, while also managing the colony's growth from a strategic overhead view. The main objective is to conquer the entire yard by eliminating the rival red ant colony and driving the human homeowners away. Key mechanics include exploring the environment screen by screen, engaging in combat with enemy ants and predators like spiders, and expanding your underground network of chambers and tunnels. The pacing is deliberate, with sudden moments of crisis that can wipe out your progress if you're not careful. It feels like conducting a miniature, often brutal, symphony of nature from the inside.
