Play SimAnt (Beta) Online
Start as a lone ant digging tunnels and dodging spiders, then grow your colony into an army to battle red ants—just don’t get stepped on by the human.

SimAnt came out for the Super Nintendo in 1991, developed by Maxis. It was part of that early wave of SNES games that explored unusual concepts, moving beyond typical platformers or action titles. You don't play a hero or an adventurer; you're an ant, and the whole game takes place in a suburban backyard and the house beyond it.
You control a single black ant at first, digging tunnels, gathering food, and laying pheromone trails to guide other ants. Your main goal is to expand your colony, produce more workers and soldiers, and eventually defeat the rival red ant colony. Key mechanics include exploring the map screen by screen, managing your nest's chambers, and directing your ants to fight or forage. The pacing is deliberate, almost methodical, and it can be surprisingly difficult to keep your colony thriving with threats like spiders, ant lions, and human feet around. It feels strangely absorbing to micromanage an entire ant society from such a humble perspective.
