Game Overview

SimAnt is one of those weird, brilliant Maxis sims that makes you obsessed with something you'd never think about—in this case, running an ant colony in some poor suburban family's backyard. You start as a lone black ant, scurrying around in top-down view, dragging crumbs back to the nest while avoiding spiders and the occasional human foot. The first time a lawnmower rolls over your workers, it's genuinely upsetting.

What’s cool is how hands-on it feels—you control one "hero" ant (highlighted in yellow) and can rally others to follow you, lay pheromone trails to guide them, or even lead suicide charges against red ant strongholds. Underground, it switches to a side view where you’re digging tunnels and frantically relocating eggs before a rainstorm floods the lower chambers. The full campaign gets wild—you eventually invade the house itself, sabotaging appliances to scare off the humans. It’s like a tiny, six-legged RTS mixed with survival horror.

The SNES version adds scripted scenarios (my favorite: defending your nest from an anteater), but the PC original nails that chaotic sandbox vibe. Just watch out for antlions. Those things are absolute menaces.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
