Game Overview

I picked up The Simpsons Hit & Run for the GameCube back in 2003, a game developed by Radical Entertainment. It was one of those licensed titles that actually felt like it belonged on the system, a bright and chaotic open world during a time when 3D platformers and driving games were really finding their footing. You got to explore a surprisingly large chunk of Springfield, which felt like a real treat for any fan of the show.

You control various members of the Simpson family, switching between them as you progress through the story missions. The main objective is to uncover a conspiracy involving a mysterious cola and surveillance cameras, which basically means you drive around causing massive amounts of property damage. The signature mechanics are the mission-based driving and on-foot exploration; you'll be racing against the clock, ramming other vehicles, and collecting collectible cards hidden all over the map. The pacing is frantic, and some of the later missions get brutally difficult, demanding near-perfect runs. It feels like you're playing through a lost, interactive episode of the show, complete with all the absurd humor and chaos.
