SkyBlazer came out for the Super Nintendo in 1994, developed by Ukiyotei. It was part of that wave of action platformers that really pushed what the SNES could do, with detailed sprites and vibrant colors. The game doesn't get talked about as much as some of the heavy hitters from that era, but it always stood out to me for its speed and style.
You control a young warrior named Sky, tasked with rescuing a goddess from a dark underworld. Movement is fast and fluid; you run, jump, slash with a sword, and use a variety of elemental magic attacks you collect by defeating bosses. The levels are designed screen by screen, often with branching paths and hidden rooms to discover. It's not an easy game, with some precise platforming and aggressive enemies, but the controls are responsive and make you feel capable. Playing it feels like guiding a whirlwind through a painted world.
