Game Overview

Solatorobo on the DS is one of those hidden gems that never got enough love. You play as Red Savarin, a wolf-like anthropomorphic mercenary who pilots a little mech—think a mix of Tail Concerto and Xenogears, but with its own charm. The world’s got this weirdly cozy sci-fi vibe, where floating islands and airships are just part of daily life.

Gameplay’s simple but satisfying: you mostly grab and toss enemies with your mech’s arms, solve some light puzzles, and explore towns where the NPCs actually have personality. The DSi enhancements are subtle (mostly just camera stuff), but the art style still holds up—bright colors, expressive characters, and a soundtrack that’s way better than it needed to be. Just don’t expect a super deep combat system; it’s more about the adventure than hardcore mechanics.

Also, fair warning: it’s Japanese-only, so unless you’re fluent or patient with guides, you might miss some story beats. Still, the action’s easy to follow even if you don’t catch every line.
