It was created by fans, not Sega, and it stands as one of the more polished hacks from that era of cartridge modding. The game takes the familiar structure of Sonic 2 and reworks it with new level layouts and playable characters from the beginning.

You control Sonic, Tails, or Knuckles as you run through reimagined versions of zones like Chemical Plant and Hill Top. The main goal is still to defeat Dr. Robotnik, but you do it by navigating altered stage geometry, finding new shortcuts, and avoiding fresh enemy placements. Signature mechanics include the spin dash for building speed and the ability to explore branching paths that weren't in the original. The pacing is faster in some sections, and the difficulty can feel uneven due to the new designs. It feels like rediscovering a game you thought you knew completely.
