Sonic 2 EX is a fan-made modification of the original Sonic the Hedgehog 2, which was released for the Sega Genesis (or Mega Drive) in 1992 by Sega. It builds on the familiar foundation of that era's platformers, offering a rebalanced and expanded take on a game many already know well.
You control Sonic, Tails, or Knuckles as they race through vibrant, high-speed stages, collecting rings and defeating Robotnik's mechanical creations. The main goal remains to stop Dr. Robotnik's schemes, but EX introduces refined physics for more precise control, additional level routes that encourage exploration, and the ability to play as Tails or Knuckles through the entire game without a second player. The pacing is brisk, and the difficulty feels thoughtfully adjusted, with some of the original's rougher edges smoothed out. It feels like rediscovering an old favorite with a fresh sense of flow and discovery.
