Sonic Classic Collection came out on the Nintendo DS in 2010, published by Sega. It was a solid way to have the early Genesis Sonic games on a handheld, fitting right into that era where portable compilations of classic titles were becoming more common.
You control Sonic, or sometimes Tails or Knuckles, running and jumping through vibrant, obstacle-filled stages. The main goal is to reach the end of each act while defeating Dr. Robotnik's robots and collecting rings for protection. Signature mechanics include building momentum to blast through loop-the-loops and corkscrews, as well as using spin dashes and precise platforming to navigate environmental hazards. The pacing is relentlessly fast, and the difficulty can spike sharply in later zones. It feels satisfying to build up speed and execute a perfect run through familiar challenges.
