Game Overview
So, Sonic Crackers—this weird little prototype for the Genesis. It’s not really a full game, more like a tech demo where Sonic and Tails (or sometimes Knuckles?) bounce around these abstract test levels. The whole thing feels janky, like they were just messing with engine-swapping mid-gameplay. Some of the physics are off, and the sprites glitch out if you push them too hard.
Funny thing is, you can totally see the DNA here for Knuckles’ Chaotix later—the weird elastic tether between characters, the floaty jumps. It’s a neat peek into Sega’s scrapped experiments, but don’t go in expecting a polished experience. More like digging through a dev’s abandoned sketchbook.
