Play Spectrobes (E) Online
Explore alien worlds, excavate fossils, awaken and raise Spectrobes, and battle the Krawl in real-time using the DS touchscreen and microphone in this 2007 adventure.
Spectrobes came out on the Nintendo DS in 2007, developed by Jupiter Corporation. It was part of that wave of DS games that really tried to use both screens and the touch interface in a meaningful way, not just as a gimmick. You don't see many games built so completely around the hardware like that anymore.
You control Rallen, a planetary patrol officer, and your main goal is to stop the Krawl invasion by collecting, awakening, and raising ancient creatures called Spectrobes. A lot of the game involves using the stylus to carefully excavate fossils from the touch screen, then using voice commands through the DS microphone to wake them up. You explore different planets screen by screen, engaging in real-time battles where you directly command your Spectrobes; positioning them and timing their special attacks is crucial. The pacing is fairly relaxed outside of combat, focused on exploration and collection, though some boss fights can be surprisingly tough. It feels like a very hands-on, tactile experience because of how much you interact with the world using the stylus.
