Game Overview
Spitfire Ace is an early flight simulator developed by MicroProse, designed by Sid Meier for the Atari before being adapted for PC by R. Donald Awalt. Set during World War II, the game puts you in the cockpit of a Royal Air Force Spitfire, tasked with defending London during the Blitz and engaging in aerial combat across 15 different missions—from the skies of France to the battles over Malta and D-Day. While limited by the hardware of its time, the game delivers a surprisingly realistic flight model, complete with solid graphics and smooth animations for its era. However, like many early sims, distinguishing between aircraft types can be challenging.Though Spitfire Ace lacks a career mode, its varied scenarios and mission-based scoring system offer a snapshot of WWII dogfighting. It’s a notable piece of gaming history, showcasing MicroProse’s early strides in flight simulation and Sid Meier’s foundational design work. For fans of classic sims or aviation history, it’s a straightforward but engaging challenge.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
