Spud’s Adventure is this weird little Game Boy gem where you play as a potato—yes, a potato—on a mission to save the princess. Most of the time, you’re climbing a tower, dodging or shooting enemies in maze-like floors (one touch saps your health, and trust me, those spiky things are everywhere). Other stages turn into a block-pushing puzzle where you’ve got to shove crates onto marked spots, and thank goodness you can reset those when you inevitably trap yourself.

Shooting baddies gets you XP, and after a while, your health bar grows—which you’ll need, because some floors are brutal. Every now and then, you bump into chatty NPCs who drop hints, though half the time I had no idea what they were talking about. It’s quirky, kinda tough, and honestly, way more fun than a game about a heroic potato has any right to be.
