Game Overview
Star Fox Assault feels like coming home—if home is a high-speed Arwing cockpit with lasers blaring. After years of peace (and that weird Dinosaur Planet detour), Fox and the gang are back where they belong: dodging asteroids, flipping U-turns mid-dogfight, and dealing with yet another mess involving Andross’s leftover goons. This time, there’s also these creepy bug things called Aparoids that eat entire cities. Charming.
The best part? They finally nailed the on-foot combat. No more awkward clunkiness—just blasting enemies with shotguns, sniping from rooftops, or rolling around in the Landmaster like a tank-obsessed kid. The campaign’s short but intense, and multiplayer’s chaotic fun (especially if you trick your friends into playing as Slippy). That one mission where you defend the Great Fox from swarms of Aparoids? Pure panic in the best way.
It’s not perfect—some ground sections drag—but when you’re barrel-rolling through a hail of missiles with the classic Star Fox soundtrack kicking in, none of that matters. The GameCube’s joystick was made for this.
