Star Trek V: The Final Frontier came out in 1989 for MS-DOS, published by Mindscape. It was one of many licensed games from that era, built around the film's plot without much fanfare. You control Captain Kirk, navigating through a mix of space combat, planetary exploration, and occasional bar brawls.
You move Kirk screen by screen, talking to characters, engaging in simple ship combat, and sometimes fighting hand to hand. The main goal is to stop Sybok from reaching the center of the galaxy, which involves gathering your crew and making choices in dialogue. Pacing is uneven, and the difficulty can spike without warning, especially during combat sequences. Playing it feels like wrestling with an ambitious but clumsy interpretation of the source material.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
