Play Street Fighter II' - Special Champion Edition (Europe) Online
You pick your fighter, mash buttons until combos start making sense, and suddenly it's 2 AM—Bison's psycho crusher still feels unfair, but you keep rematching anyway. The Genesis version somehow makes Chun-Li's kicks even snappier than the arcade.

Street Fighter II: Special Champion Edition is basically the Genesis port that actually got it right. Remember how some arcade-to-console translations felt off? This one nails the speed, the combos, even the weirdly satisfying *thwack* of a well-timed Dragon Punch. And yeah, you can finally play as the bosses—Bison’s psycho crusher feels as cheap as you’d hope.
The roster’s all here: Ryu’s fireballs, Chun-Li’s lightning kicks, Zangief’s terrifying spinning pile driver. What surprised me was how much smoother it runs compared to the SNES version—no slowdown when things get hectic. That said, good luck explaining to your friend why repeatedly crouch-kicking as Blanka is a valid strategy. The soundtrack’s still a banger, too, though my neighbors probably disagree after the 50th rematch.
If you’ve got a spare controller and a grudge from 1993, this is the version to settle it with.
