Oh man, Streets of Rage II—this game ruined other beat 'em ups for me. The first time I picked Axel and punched some goon into a trash can, I knew I was in for something special. The way enemies crumple when you land a combo, the way Max can just *hurl* people across the screen—it never gets old.
And don’t even get me started on the music. That bassline in the first stage? Instant nostalgia, even if you’ve never played it before. The pixel art still holds up too—rain-slick streets, neon signs, thugs with ridiculous haircuts. It’s all so… alive.
Playing co-op is where it really shines, though. My friend always hogged Blaze while I got stuck with Skate, but we’d still waste entire afternoons elbow-dropping bosses. SEGA took everything from the first game and cranked it to 11. This isn’t just a classic—it’s the reason side-scrollers still try to measure up decades later.
