Play Strife Online
You creep through rusty corridors blasting cultists, then hit up the rebel base to haggle for upgrades—your crossbow’s way deadlier with that new scope, and the bartender’s got a job if you’re desperate for cash.
Strife came out in 1996 for MS-DOS, developed by Velocity Inc. It was one of those mid-90s shooters that tried to blend genres, mixing first-person action with RPG elements. You could tell it was ambitious for its time, even if it didn't always get the attention of the bigger names.
You play as a mercenary fighting against an oppressive religious order. You explore the world screen by screen, talking to rebels, taking on side quests, and upgrading your gear. Combat involves shooting enemies with a crossbow or other weapons, and you often have to manage your health and ammo carefully. The pacing is deliberate, with moments of intense action balanced by slower exploration and dialogue. It feels like a rough but earnest attempt to tell a story through action.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
