Game Overview

Rod Hyde went all-in on realism with this Harrier flight sim for the Amiga, and honestly? It’s more like a hardcore shoot 'em up with flight sim elements than a dry training manual. You’ve got three difficulty levels, plus two practice modes—one for basic flying (which you’ll need, because VTOL is no joke) and another for combat drills.

The targeting system does some heavy lifting, making it easier to lock onto enemy planes and tanks, but dodging return fire still keeps you on your toes. Clearing out tanks opens up space to drop your own bases, which then turns into a frantic defend-the-fort scenario. And yeah, vertical take-offs work like they should, though you’ll quickly learn to just use a runway when you can—saves time and nerves.

Weapon choices matter, too. You’ll figure out fast that unloading everything isn’t always the move, especially when swarms of enemies show up. It’s one of those games where the first 10 minutes feel overwhelming, but once it clicks, you’re hooked.
