Strike Gunner is one of those SNES shooters that somehow flew under the radar, which is a shame because it’s pure, unfiltered arcade chaos. You’re basically strapped into a jet that feels way too fast for its own good, weaving through waves of enemies while swapping weapons on the fly—hold down the button too long, and you’ll overheat your lasers, which is equal parts annoying and hilarious when you realize you just screwed yourself mid-boss fight.
The levels throw everything at you: floating fortresses, canyon runs where the walls try to crush you, and enemy swarms that fill the screen with bullets. The two-player mode is where it really shines, though—just try not to accidentally blast your co-op partner when you panic-fire. The music’s got that classic SNES synth energy, and the pixel explosions still look great. Not the deepest shooter out there, but sometimes you just want to hold right and blow stuff up.
If your SNES still works, this one’s worth digging out of the bargain bin.
