Stunt Race FX came out in 1994 for the Super Nintendo, developed by Nintendo and Argonaut Software. It was one of those early attempts at 3D racing on the system, using the Super FX chip to push polygons in a way that felt ambitious for the time, even if the frame rate sometimes struggled to keep up.
You control one of several blocky vehicles, from a sporty car to a heavy truck, racing on twisting tracks filled with jumps, loops, and obstacles. The main goal is straightforward: finish first. Key mechanics include drifting around corners by tapping the shoulder buttons and managing your limited turbo boost for straightaways. The game isn't easy; later courses demand precise control and memorization. It feels like a rough but earnest preview of what racing games would become.
