Play Submarine Online
You creep through dark waters in a rusty sub, rationing torpedoes while destroyers hunt you—one wrong move and the ocean swallows you whole. That eerie silence between sonar pings still gets me.

Submarine was part of the MS-DOS Classic Games collection, though it didn't carry a specific release number like some others in the series. Developed by John R. White and published by Sierra On-Line, it was one of those early PC titles that explored simulation in a simple but tense format. It fit right into the era when games were often experiments in mechanics rather than story, relying on player focus and a steady hand.
You control a World War II submarine, navigating grid-based maps while hunting enemy ships and avoiding depth charges. The main objective is to complete patrol missions by sinking targets and returning to port safely. Key mechanics include managing your limited torpedo supply, carefully adjusting depth to stay hidden, and using the periscope for surface attacks. The pacing is deliberate, almost slow, but the tension spikes whenever a destroyer appears on sonar; one mistake with your oxygen or pressure levels can end a run abruptly. It feels like a quiet, high stakes game of cat and mouse where every decision carries weight.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
