Game Overview

Sugoroku Ginga Senki came out for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1996, developed by Yutaka. It was one of those late era SNES releases that didn't get much attention outside Japan, a space themed board game adventure that felt both familiar and a little strange.

You control a commander moving across a star map, rolling dice to advance and claim planets as your own. The main goal is to conquer the entire board, which you do by engaging in small scale tactical battles whenever an opponent lands on one of your territories. These fights are quick, resolved with simple commands and a bit of luck, and losing half your fleet to an unlucky roll can be frustrating but also oddly funny. The pacing is generally relaxed, though the computer players can put up a decent fight. It feels like a cheerful, slightly chaotic space opera played out on a game board.
