Super Chinese Fighter GB came out for the Game Boy in 1991, developed by Culture Brain. It was part of a long running series of brawlers and RPGs, but this one was a straightforward side scrolling beat 'em up. It fit right in with the kind of simple, portable action games that were common on the system back then.

You control a small, determined martial artist who moves screen by screen, punching and kicking through waves of cartoonish enemies. Your main goal is just to fight your way to the end of each stage. The combat is basic but satisfying; landing a solid jump kick can send an opponent flying off their feet. You can also pick up temporary power ups, like a bow that lets you shoot arrows, to clear out groups. The pacing is quick, and the difficulty can get pretty sharp, especially when you're surrounded.
