I picked up Super Scribblenauts for the Nintendo DS back in 2010, a game from 5th Cell that felt right at home on the handheld. It was one of those titles that really leaned into the touch screen, a common feature for the era, but it did something no other game was really attempting at the time. It built on the ideas of the first Scribblenauts, fixing some of the earlier control issues, and just let your imagination run the show.

You control a little guy named Maxwell, and your main goal is to collect these starites by solving puzzles on each screen. The core of the game is typing any object you can think of into a notebook; it just appears, and you can modify it with adjectives, turning a simple "sword" into a "giant flaming sword." The puzzles are open-ended, so you can brute force a solution with a monster or carefully build a ladder out of cheese. The pacing is quick, level to level, and while some puzzles can stump you, the sheer number of possible answers means you're rarely truly stuck. It feels like having a creative toolbox where every idea is valid, and the only limit is your own vocabulary.
