Super Widget is one of those weird little SNES games that somehow slipped past most people—which is a shame, because it’s got this goofy, unpredictable energy I love. You play as a little alien who can morph into different forms mid-level: one second you’re rolling around as a bouncy ball, the next you’re blasting forward as a rocket. The controls take a minute to click, but once they do, it feels surprisingly smooth.
The levels are packed with these bright, almost surreal obstacles—think floating platforms over neon pits, enemies that look like they escaped from a Saturday morning cartoon. The music’s got that classic SNES synth charm too, all bouncy and slightly off-kilter. It’s not as polished as Mario, but that’s part of the appeal. If you’re tired of the usual platformers, this one’s a fun detour.
Honestly, I stumbled onto it years ago and still go back every so just to see if it holds up. It does.
