Game Overview
So, Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology is basically a love letter to Tales fans—you create your own hero and dive into this mashup world where characters from past games just casually show up. At first, I spent way too long tweaking my character’s hair color, but once you’re in, it’s classic Tales action: running quests, smacking monsters, and building your rep in this weird little guild system.
The combat’s that same fast-paced Linear Motion Battle System the series is known for—you’re stuck on a 2D plane, but you can dart around freely between whacking enemies with sword combos or flinging fireballs. Unlocking new Artes as you level up keeps fights from getting stale, though I’ll admit I mostly spammed the same three moves for the first few hours.
There’s a decent chunk of classes to pick from (four starter, seven advanced), and the crossover cameos are fun if you’ve played other Tales games—though honestly, half the time I had no idea who these people were. Still, it’s a solid dungeon-crawly RPG for the PSP, especially if you just want to zone out and grind some quests between bus rides.
