Tao's Adventure: Curse of the Demon Seal came out for the Nintendo DS in 2005, developed and published by Konami. You control Tao, a young boy who must climb a massive tower to break a curse. The gameplay mixes exploration and combat across interconnected screens, much like a classic top-down adventure. You use the stylus to draw specific symbols on the lower screen to cast spells in real time during battles, which requires focus and a steady hand. A major part of the game involves finding monster eggs, hatching them, and raising the creatures to fight alongside you, adding a layer of collection and strategy. The pacing is deliberate, and some of the later puzzles and enemy encounters can be quite challenging.
